“You cannot find your way easily”- the word that ruins thoughts. As we know, every single word can change lives in our world. A story written down here is based on true life experience.

It was a typical windy and cold winter of February. The weather was not showing any mercy for people. As always, some people were going to their works and others were doing something different on that day. Tom Wilson, who is our 8 years old hero of the story, just woke up early because his parents said him yesterday they will go to uncle’s, Mike, home. Everyone at this home, our hero as well, was preparing and Tom said that with a high voice: “I do not want to go there, I just want to stay at home” but his mom, Susan Wilson, answered back: “No one did not ask your opinion, right?”- “I know but outside is so cold, I do not like this type of weather”- he said. “We are not moved by your desires, okay? Have breakfast and join us immediately”- said his mom slowly. After all his attempts, Tom knew that he should give up and listen to his mom too. So, 25 minutes later the family was ready to leave the house and they left their house at 10:50 am.

Tom’s father, Peter Wilson, did not have a car yet and they had to go subway by bus. There were 10 minutes between the bus stop and subway. Tom was thinking about his toys and video games because he would not play today. He knew there were 8 stations to arrive city center and it would take 30–35 minutes. It was the third time that Tom got on the train. So, trains came and they wended one’s way. When they arrived at the city center they had to use another bus to reach their uncle’s home. Finally, they arrived at uncle’s home at 12:30 pm and Mike welcomed them very warmly because Mike was abroad for his business and he hadn’t seen them for a very long time. This visit lasted 2–3 hours and when they were preparing to leave, a clock was showing 3:30 pm. The family did not know that a terrible nightmare was waiting for them at the bus station where was situated nearby of the subway.

They arrived at the bus station by bus and before they got on the train Susan saw a florist with beautiful flowers. She wanted to buy one of them and Susan grabbed his son’s hand to go there together while Peter was waiting at the bus station. In the flower store, Tom saw interesting pictures and he entered another room of the store. In addition, that day somehow there were a lot of people on that street. Susan bought a yellow flower and even she did not notice that Tom was not there. Peter was shaking his hand for Susan because they did not have enough time to spend there all day. Crowd zone deluded Peter and Susan and they supposed that Tom was with them as well. When they got on the train, Susan shouted and she noticed that Tom was not there.

What was Tom doing, then?

At the first sight, Tom was scared but he was getting used to this situation gradually. Tom decided to go home alone. He saw a lot of people walking toward him. A man approached Tom and he looked at Tom’s scared and lonely sweet face. He understood Tom is lost and he said: “What is wrong, little man? You lost?”. Tom answered: “Yes Mister, I’m lost but I know how to go my home”. “No, you cannot find your way easily”- said, old man. Tom got angry at an old man for this statement and whispered on his lips- “I can find my way”. “What did you say?”-the old man said. Then Tom did not care about this man and he really wanted to go home immediately because the sky was getting dark. So, he entered the subway and got on the train……

During that time, Susan and Peter called the police to search for Tom. They had already come back to find him but Tom was not there, though. The family thoughts were already getting worse. They talked to the owner of the flower store and they could not get any information and a police investigation had started recently. Despite all efforts to find Tom, they did not find him.

Our little hero, Tom, had already beaten his fears due to this bad experience. He saw different people on the train when he went back home. Everyone on the train was looking at Tom unconsciously because they were seeing 8 years old kid and he was going alone. Then Tom looked at the green watch on his thin wrist and saw that it was already 6:00 pm. He did know his family was desperate. Throughout those events, Tom still did not believe that. He arrived at the bus stop where was in their town, he got on the bus to go home. Tom was already tired and he was thinking of his mom and dad as well. During that time, his family was going home too. Tom reached their flat and unfortunately, he did not have any key to open the door. He decided to go to their neighbor’s home. A neighbor, Natalie, welcomed him and gave him hot pudding to heat. She asked about his family and Tom told everything her. So, she called Sarah and informed her Tom came home. Sarah and Peter were surprised and they hugged each other. Police congratulated them. They arrived at the flat and thanked Natalie for informing them and welcoming Tom warmly.

After the family got together again, Tom told every single moment of his journey to his family and his parents also apologized to him because of forgetting him in the flower store.

So, although that was a bad event Tom defeated his fears and promised his family he will always live with them. Tom is now 21 and he is planning to study abroad for his master’s degree. Is that familiar? Yes, you are right. He will be alone again after fifteen years.
